And if this was Happiness?

What is Happiness? Is it a destination, something to constantly strive for? Something that's around the corner, once we've accomplished A, or changed B, or moved beyond C. It's elusive, something that we'll never quite reach, or that seems to slip through our fingers like send.

But what if Happiness was now. Yes, right now.

We're nostalgic of our past and hopeful about our future. Yet we never seem to appreciate today. This precise moment in life, which we call the present.

Maybe it's because the 'now' rushes past our eyes, just as a river does. If we only took the time to stop thinking about what we didn't accomplish yesterday, and what still needs to be done tomorrow, maybe then we'd have the time to appreciate the present.

A few years back, I used to have a very stressful job (Customer Relations) for a big IT company. Over time, I developed a stress relief mechanism that aloud me to unload all that tension build-up. Everyday I made sure that focused on something beautiful. I'd focus on it and remember it throughout the day. This could be the laugh of a little girl, a beautiful sunset, the sound of snow crunching under your boots, or anything that brought a smile to my face.

This focus on the present on the now, is something I still do everyday. And it has brought me a lot of happiness.

So what makes you happy?

Funny you should ask this, I was just thinking yesturday that I am really happy and in a good place in my life right now.

Now how many people can say that? I love my life. Scary. I hope I haven't jinxed myself by saying it outloud. :)

Not to many can, though for the wrong reasons. Reminds me of a Sheryl Crow song, "It's not having what you want It's wanting what you've got!".

Words of wisdom!

You've made a really valid point here...it truly is all about perception. Noticing the wonderful things in our every day makes such a significant difference in our perception of our lives.

One of the "small things" that made me happy today was putting my daughter, who is the youngest of my three kids and the only girl, in her very first Halloween costume. She was the most beautiful little princess I ever saw, and it gave me genuine joy to see her in her pink blingy dress!! :) Thanks for helping me refocus on that special feeling.

Thanks for stopping by and putting a smile on my face.

Reading your comment reminded me of my little Florence all dressed up as a little mouse and going around the neighborhood for her second time trick-o-treating.

Happy Halloween Angie!
