What are you reading right now?

I love reading. I love books. Ask some of the people who helped us the last time we moved, and they'll tell you I/we have too many books - but I would tend to disagree.

One peculiar thing I like to do is read more than one book at a time. I've always read a few books at the same time, and though I've tried the one book, then another, then another approach, it just doesn't work for me.

Almost 2 years ago, in early January 2007, I set myself a little book challenge to see if I could stick to reading one book a month. I must say I failed miserably at the task. So now, I'm back to my old habits and reading more then one book at a time. Currently, I' reading to following:
Here's what I'll be reading next:
So far, I much prefer this old approach of mine. Somehow I find that as I need time to digest a book, being able to jump into another while I do this, greatly helps me appreciate the books I read. Go figure! I'll try to write a little review as I finish reading each of these books.

And how about you? What are you reading these days?

I'm taking a course on British victorian woman writers so I'm reading Jane Eyre.

I snuck in The Book of Negroes by Lawerence Hill which was excellent a few weeks ago though and I'm going to ask for The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and The Given Day by Dennis Lehane for Christmas.

And I think you're right, one can never have too many books!

I used to read a lot, but I haven't read a single book since I started blogging, nine months ago.

:-(

@Leanne - Mmm, you've got some interesting title in there. Will check those out.

@Vered - Take 30min a day to start, then move on to 1 hour of reading. Split it up in 15min chunks if you have to! But get back to reading books, it's essential to our sanity!

Just started Excession by Iain Banks; I can't seem to get enough of his Culture novels. Just got Creative Photoshop: Digital Illustration and Art Techniques which looks awesome...gonna start on the exercises it serves up this weekend. Am listening to Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill (son of Stephen King, I believe), which is creepy scary and oh so good at melting away the miles on the treadmill. The other book I have going is Life Itself by Boyce Rensberger, which talks about the mechanics of cell biology in layman's terms. Riveting stuff...the microworld is fascinating.

Just found your blog when I stumbled upon Vered's momgrind blog. Am bookmarking yours now. Many of my friends echo Vered's sentiment -- no time for books after kids, or blogging or internet reading . . .

I go a little crazy if I don't have a book to read, sort of like someone who is addicted to a drug and took their last pill. Stalking pacing crazy is what I'm trying to say.

I envy anyone who hasn't read Anita Shreve. I wish there were one book left, just one of hers, that I hadn't already read.

I also read several books at a time, though unfortunately that usually leads me to leaving one or two perpetually unfinished! The latest one on my list is Blink...I love Malcolm Gladwell!

@Mynxee - Talk about a wide variety of reading material. Love it! Excession is going on my Amazon.ca wish list!

@A Lawyer Mom's - Finding time to read a boook is indeed becoming harder and harder these days. Sometimes you've got to give yourself a break!

@MamaEarthing - Blink is amazing at every page!

Hi David,

long time no talk :)

I currently read:

1. The Day Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko (although the German Translation. It has a nice russian touch!)

2. Alkor. Tagebuch 1989. by Walter Kempowski (German chronist, 1989 was the year the German Wall fell).

3. The Shaolin Monastery: History, Religion, and the Chinese Martial Arts by Meir Shahar (I am a history buff regarding the Chinese Martial Arts)

4. Yoga by Ernest Wood (yeah, I started Yoga some time ago and want to read a bit about the background)

5. Concentration: An Approach to Meditation by Ernest Wood (Meditation is a part of Yoga and helps to clear your mind)

And I have a lot an my to read list, too :)

I wish you a merry christmas, man!

Hey Christian! Indeed it's been a long time since you've drop by. You've got a nice list of book there. Will need to check each out.

By the way, are you still playing EVE Online these days? Don't think I've seen you log-in in a while. Let me know if you do!

I dropped by quite regularly but just now found time to add a comment ;)

I forgot an important book that I just finished:

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski (an amazing novel written in an unique style!).

And no, I don't play EVE at the moment. I just got a free 5 day pass via mail and will drop in for that amount of time but since my life is very interesting I don't have the time to spare for the grind :) But I follow the game closely from the outside. Your other blog helps quite a lot in this regard!
